On February 5th – 7th Micro Focus hosted the 2019 ITOM Summit at the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort in Phoenix, Arizona. I was present at the event and serving as Master of Ceremonies for everything Operations Bridge. The selfie below proves it!
The event kicked off with our Operations Bridge Customer Advisory Board (CAB) Meetings on Tuesday, which featured interactive technical discussions on topics like Monitoring as a Code (MaaC), reporting with COSO, as well as a look the future with OpsBridge X.
Wednesday morning kicked off with the Micro Focus ITOM Keynote led by Tom Goguen. Tom talked about how Micro Focus is continuing to transform and innovate in the IT Operations Management domain by delivering solutions to our customers that span 4 Key Focal Areas: Hybrid IT Management, Enterprise DevOps, Predictive Analytics, Security Risk and Governance.
Tom is seen below discussing how Operations Bridge, SiteScope, APM, AppManager, and Network Operations Management delivers Service Assurance as part of the Hybrid IT Management focus area.
After Tom’s keynote, we had the pleasure of hearing from our platinum sponsor Accenture. Kulvinder Singh and Mary Carole Prasse spoke on the strategic partnership between Micro Focus and Accenture and how Micro Focus ITOM Solutions are driving results for their customers today as seen below.
Wednesday afternoon featured presentations from 4 Operations Bridge customers. These customers shared on how they are evolving IT Operations as part of their organizations Digital Transformation journey, as well as how they are adjusting to the growing demand around Hybrid IT and DevOps. I'd like to personally thank all of our presenters from Exelon, Whitlock IS, SunGard Availability Services, Accenture, T-Mobile, OpenText, and Intact Technology.
Thursday, was our final day at the ITOM Summit and featured 5 presentations from Operations Bridge Product Management as well as a technical workshop to wrap up the afternoon.
To kick off the internal Operations Bridge presentations, Harald Burose, Director of Operations Bridge Product Management led a packed room of customers through his keynote Next Generation Operations Management with AIOps Automation. Harald shared how today’s enterprises are working in vastly Hybrid IT estate, and that in order to provide service assurance to their end users they must discover, monitor, analyze, and remediate issues across a myriad of infrastructure and application types. Operations Bridge today is delivering upon 5 main use cases as they relate to Hybrid IT Management.
Saumya Upadhyaya – Sr. Product Manager for Operations Bridge spoke about the shift from Application Performance Management (APM) to Digital Experience Management. Saumya opened with research data from Dimensional Research (shown in the photo below) that showcases the shift in the industry to multi-cloud operating environments, and how those issues are becoming more difficult to resolve today. Bottom line, enterprises today need a strategy to proactively monitor, analyze, and remediate applications issues across multiple languages and platforms whether on-premise or in the cloud(s). Micro Focus integrates end-user experience monitoring, infrastructure & application monitoring, 3rd party tool monitoring, and automated AIOps analytics to bring a seamless Digital Experience Management platform together. These capabilities are all licensed as part of the Operations Bridge licensing model today.
Tapan Shah – Sr. Product Manager for Operations Bridge then spoke about how to exploit the power of automation to run autonomous operations successfully. Tapan started his discussion by covering the basics of onboarding automation using agent-based and agentless software followed by showcasing how to create custom topology and metric collection within OBM. After onboarding automation, Tapan moved to discuss monitoring automation and gave some quick how-to tips on simplifying configuration for more dynamic, hybrid environments.
Next, Tapan dug into event automation and shared some of our latest innovations in automatic event correlation.
Tapan also discussed several best practices for setting up ticketing automation and ad-hoc downtime management. Lastly, Tapan shared how one of our customers saved over 10,000 man hours and $500,000 USD in their first year of implementation by applying process automation with Operations Orchestration.
Gary Brandt – Sr. Product Manager for Operations Bridge spoke next on Gaining Efficiency with Automated AIOps. To get started, Gary did some background on what AIOps is and why the market is focusing so heavily in on it, followed by sharing some Operations Bridge AIOps Use Cases and highlighting two our customers who are seeing major benefits from using Operations Bridge to drive AIOps.
Kara McMillan – Sr. Product Manager for Operations Bridge wrapped up our updates from product management with an overview of how to simply dashboarding and reporting on top of our single analytic database known as Collect Once Store Once (COSO). After a brief overview of what COSO was, Kara shared how users can visualize this data from Business Value Dashboard (BVD), followed by how users can Bring their Own BI Dashboards and populate data into it from COSO.
Kara wrapped up our session by sharing a few BVD customer examples and shared how to make a BVD in 3 Easy Steps.
Overall, it was a great week in Phoenix interacting with customers, hearing their successes, and exploring the possibilities with the next generation of operations management solutions from Micro Focus.
