Web client: Views column width autofit

Idea:

When you open a view in the web client, and you click on the column headers' separator, Service Manager does an autofit to a fixed width.

We would like it to do a "real" autofit, i.e. to adapt the width to the text contained in the header and the other row cells of the column, i.e. shrink or extend so that the content of the header and all the row cells of that column:
- is visible,
- but not more than that this required width.

Scenario:

You open a view in the web client, and you click on the column headers' separator, Service Manager does an autofit to a fixed width.

Unacceptable:

The columns width is either:
- too small
- or too big (which enforces the other column width to be too small)

Required:

  • Users are indeed complaining that they are unable to specify column width as part of the view definition and that any adjustment they do will be lost when the browser's cache is cleared.  Clearing the browser's cache is a very common support step (for SM and any other web app) and thus this is somewhat frustrating to users.
