My sitescope customers are requesting historical reporting of upto 6 months. Is this feasible?
If so, where do I need to tell SiteScope (configure) to keep 6 months of monitor status?
What are the pros and cons of such a setting?
Yes, you can do it if you have SiteScope integrated with BSM, this way the historical data can be stored in BSM and you can generate the reports you need. By default, SiteScope keeps the data (in the logs) for 40 days and then these are replaced by the new ones, there is a way to tell SiteScope to store these logs for more days, but is not recommended because this would increase the size of the logs and this will fill the hard drive of the SiteScope server more quickly.
You'd be better off making SiS log to a DB. You can set that up easily in the SiS admin UI.. you can use any DB you like that is supported by the Java ODBC driver SiS uses (MS SQL, MySQL, Postgres, Oracle etc).. then you can manage your data retention easer, and you should be able to create any varience of reporting you like..
