SiteScope Points

Hello All,

We are trying to use the sitescope as our web monitoring tools and we really liked the product and it looked perfect fit .

but what i am not able to understand is the point system.

I have created a webscript using vugen and loaded it in sitescope and when i run the report it says 16 points have been consumed, when i select all teh couter for three transactions.

Next time i only selected one counter from each transaction and it still charged me 12 points.

I am not able to understand how this Point system works, can anyone tell me how does it work.

Thanks,

Sudhakar

P.S. I am doign this in a 60 day trial version of teh sitescope .

  • Web Script monitor consumes 4 points per every transaction run by the monitor. The number of measurements per transaction selected shouldn't matter for licensing.

  • Hi,

You can check in "Chapter 5: SiteScope Licenses" "License Point Usage For Monitors" "Sitescope Deployment Guide" page 30 for complete lists the point usage for each instance of a SiteScope monitor type.

    http://support.openview.hp.com/selfsolve/document/KM00230944

    Web script monitor :

4 points per transaction run by the monitor. A transaction can include as many URLs as needed. The monitor can include up
    to 12 measurements per transaction.
Note: A Web Script monitor can consume more than 4 points if a script run by the monitor has more than 1 transaction.

  • Hi Sudhakar,

Here are some details which will help u regarding sitescope license point usage,

Licensing for SiteScope is based on a point system

    Understanding Monitor Licensing
Licensing for SiteScope is based on a point system that offers flexibility in scaling and deployment. A permanent SiteScope license provides a number of points that are used to activate a combination of monitor types.

Note: SiteScope does not have user-based access licensing. There is no limit to the number of users that can access the SiteScope application server.

The number of SiteScope monitors that can be created is based on two factors:

    - total number of monitor points purchased
    - types of SiteScope monitors needed

The monitor types are divided into three categories based on how many points you need to activate them. For example, to set up one URL Monitor for a Web page, one monitor point per monitor instance is needed. To set up an Apache Server Monitor, one monitor point for each server performance metric you want to monitor is needed.

The following tables list the point usage for each instance of the various SiteScope monitor types:

    System Monitors
System monitors are used to verify the availability of infrastructure resources. The following monitor types are licensed as 1 point per monitor instance:

    Composite
    CPU Utilization
    Database
    DHCP
    Directory
    Disk Space
    File
    LDAP
    Log File
    Memory
    News
    Network
    NT Dial-up
    NT Event Log
    Radius
    Script
    Service

    Application Monitors
Application monitors are used to check the availability and performance parameters of specific infrastructure applications. These monitor types allow you to monitor up to ten performance metrics per monitor instance and are licensed as 1 point per metric or measurement:

    Apache Web Server
    ATG Dynamo Application Server
    BEA Tuxedo
    BEA WebLogic Application Server
    BroadVision Application Server
    CheckPoint FireWall-1
    Cisco Works
    Citrix MetaFrame
    IBM DB2
    IBM WebSphere Application Server
    F5 Big-IP
    MacroMedia ColdFusion Server
    MAPI
    NetScape Enterprise/iPlanet Server
Windows Performance Counter (Microsoft Windows platforms)
    Novell SilverStream
    Oracle9i Application Server
    Oracle JDBC
Real One/Real Media Player and Server
    SunONE Server
    Sybase Database

    Web/URL Monitors
URL monitor types are used to check the availability and content of Web pages. The following monitor types are licensed as 1 point per instance or per step, in the case of multiple step transactions:

    eBusiness Chain
    Link Check
    URL
    URL Content
URL List (1 point per URL)
URL Sequence (1 point per step)
    Web Server
    Web Service

    Web Script Monitor
The Web Script monitor is used to monitor transactions between virtual end-users and target Web sites. The following monitor type is licensed as 4 points per transaction run by the monitor. A transaction can include as many URLs as needed. The monitor can include up to 12 measurements per transaction.

    Network Service Monitors
Network Service monitors are used to verify the availability of a variety of services that may exist in the infrastructure. These monitor types are licensed as 1 point per instance:

    DNS
    Formula (Bandwidth) Composite
    FTP
    Mail
Network bandwidth (1 point per interface)
    Ping
    Port
    RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol)
    SNMP
    SNMP by MIB
    SNMP Trap
    Container Monitor Types

The sequence checking and compound monitoring functions provided by the Composite and eBusiness Chain monitors continue to be available. These monitor types are used to group member monitors, which are counted at the applicable monitor point rate. These monitors can be set up at no additional cost in monitor points beyond that of the member monitors which they contain.

    Enterprise Application Monitors
These optional monitors are licensed per application type. An option license is purchased based on which of the following applications need to be monitored:

    COM
    SAP CCMS
    Siebel
    WebSphere MQ Status

    Solution Templates
Solution templates are optimized monitor templates that include both optional and standard monitor types. Access to the template and the template-specific monitor types requires an option license. Purchase of the option license also includes access to Best Practices documentation for the specific solution. The following solution templates are available with SiteScope:

Active Directory (with or without Global Catalog)
    Exchange (Microsoft Exchange 5.5, 2000 and 2003)
    Oracle Database (versions 8i, 9i, and 10g)
SAP (NetWeaver Application and R3 Application servers)
Siebel App Server (for UNIX and for Windows)
Siebel Gateway Server (for UNIX and for Windows)
    WebLogic Application Server
    WebSphere 5.x Application Server

    Note:
The current license point consumption can easily be checked by opening the file <Sitescope_install_dir>\logs\monitorCount.log
