(RPA) SupportTip: RPA db table schema validation error

In an RPA 2020.02 environment, the DB engine was upgraded to SQL 2019, while the DB itself is still in SQL 2012. After the change the designer is not accessible. On a web browser clicking on the designer icon the link showed up in the address field, but message "You are about to be redirected to RPS Designer application" will stay forever, the Designer login window did not come up.

An error is seen in general.log and the designer is not accessible.
[WrapperStartStopAppMain] (ContextLoader.java:350) ERROR - Context initialization failed org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'entityManagerFactory' defined in URL [file:/C:/Micro%20Focus/Robotic%20Process%20Automation%20Designer/designer/tomcat/temp/0-oo-designer/WEB-INF/classes/META-INF/spring/datamodelContext.xml]: Invocation of init method failed; nested exception is javax.persistence.PersistenceException: [PersistenceUnit: default] Unable to build Hibernate SessionFactory; nested exception is org.hibernate.tool.schema.spi.SchemaManagementException: Schema-validation: wrong column type encountered in column [BRANCH_ID] in table [OO_EXECUTION_STATE]; found [nvarchar (Types#NVARCHAR)], but expecting [varchar(255) (Types#VARCHAR)]

This is a db table schema validation error because SQL 2019 is not supported by RPA 2020.02.

The solution is to either rollback the database upgrade or upgrade the environment to SQL Server 2019 compatible version 2021.02.

In the meanwhile RPA R&D created a fix as a workaround to avoid any errors related to SQL Server upgrade. If for some reason, the non-support DB version is needed, open a support ticket to report the issue.
