Using SCAuto - Mail - Unix - How to not use default sendmail configuration

Hi everyone,

I don't know if it is possible, however I'd like to know if it is.

Here is what I want to do. I am using SM 9.34 which uses SCAuto Mail (for Unix), which means it uses the sendmail of Unix server. As I can't change the value that sendmail uses for reasons, I'd like to know if it is possible to force another smtp inside the application instead of in the UNIX server.

So, UNIX server sendmail function would still use its "mxo.exchange..." and as for SM 9.34, when SCMail would passes to UNIX, it would directly output to a "smtp.blahblah"

If this is not clear, please ask me for some details because I might not be explaining correctly.

Thank you for your help.

  • For outbound email in 9.34 I would recommend the use of sm -emailout and not SCAuto mail.   With sm -emailout you configure the name of the smtp that you want to use with parameters:

    smtphost:smtp3.blahblah
    smtpport:25

Search for "Javamail" in the SM online help

  • OK, I'll take a look, however just to be sure... if all my notifications and other emails were sent via SCAuto (mail)... do I need to reconfigure some things to use that Javamail? Or will it just use Javamail instead of SCMail?

  • Javamail ( sm -emailout ) reads from the eventout table just like the SCAuto email solution so you do not need to change anything as far as notifications etc. as all notifications are first sent to the eventout table.

One thing to keep in mind when switching to Javamail.  If your SCAuto email solution was configured to NOT delete the records from eventout after they were processed then you need to manually delete all of the already processed eventout records or Javamail will resend them.

Javamail also allows you to take advantage of the new HTML formatted emails.
