HPSM 9.21 to 9.41 upgrade error. help!

I hope everyone is doing well. 

We are facing the following error while upgrading from HPSM 9.21 RTE 9.30 to version 9.41 classic:

Unrecoverable error in application:  sm.upgrade.ux on panel call.apply.upgrade

The steps that we have taken are as follows:

  • Ran *aapm.upgrade.purge
  • Loaded the pregpb.bin successfully
  • Loaded the transfer.bin file successfully
  • Ran the SQL compare utility successfully

But when we click on configure and apply and upgrade, we get the error: (Unrecoverable error in application:  sm.upgrade.ux on panel call.apply.upgrade).

Everything is being done on the same machine. The application client database everything is on the same machine.

We are using HPSM 00747 file for the upgrade (downloaded from HP website) and have tried both from 9.30 client and 9.40 client. The client side load/unload option is unchecked on both.

Kindly advise as the process had come to a halt.

  • Have you checked the logs for more information? Like sm.log or the txt-files in your upgrade folder? They might reveal some issues that are not explicitly visible in a client. It's also worth noticing which are the last lines the upgrade process prints to the upgrade folder's text files.

    As a sidenote, it's really difficult to help somebody in a upgrade process via forum. The upgrade is a complicated process and every environment is a bit different. What comes to modifications, field lenghts, databases etc.

    Yes ive checked all logs. Found nothing useful.

    The most I could find was the following in the log file with rtm set to 5:

    I would appriciate if anyone can put me on the right direction. Whether the issue related to the database of the application itself so I can narrow down my search. It sometimes tells me that there is an error on line 1 or line 22 as follows:

     

    Process panel exit.error.msg in RAD apm.upgrade.wizard.ux encountered error in line 1 (apm.upgrade.wizard.ux,exit.error.msg)

    or

    Process panel start in RAD apm.upgrade.wizard.ux encountered error in line 22 (apm.upgrade.wizard.ux,start)

     

    Can anyone tell me if i can open the code of these functions and look what is happening on line 1 or line 22?

     

  • Completed SM 9.34 to SM 9.41 upgrade last week, so I did not have time to continue this discussion until now.

    Please share the last 20 lines detail.log contains (in your custom patch folder). I can compare it to my installation log files and make guesses to which step your failure relates to.

    Sorry for replying late.

    Actually i configured the issue and solved the problem. The issue was that we cannot go directly from 9.21 RTE 9.3 to 9.41 RTE 9.4.

    We first have to upgrade the RTE to 9.4 then only we can upgrade the application version to 9.41.

    So i upgraded to RTE firstr and the application was sucussfully upgraded to 9.41.
