(SM) Support Tip: How to change the ports on the SOLR Search Engine

Sometimes it will be necessary to change SOLR's default port (i.e. 8080). The following steps are how to change the default port

1. Navigate to where you've installed SOLR and go into its tomcat\conf directory (example: e:\<SOLR>\tomcat\conf

2. Edit the e:\SOLR\tomcat\conf\server.xml

3. Go to around line 69 where you will see this element:

<Connector port="8080" protocol="HTTP/1.1"
connectionTimeout="20000"
redirectPort="8443"
URIEncoding="UTF-8" />

4. Change the Connector port to something other than 8080. Perhaps 8081 so it would look like this:

<Connector port="8081" protocol="HTTP/1.1"
connectionTimeout="20000"
redirectPort="8443"
URIEncoding="UTF-8" />

5. In this server.xml file you can also change other active ports so as not to conflict with another Apache Tomcat installed on the same server.

6. Save the server.xml file

7. Stop and restart SOLR

8. The new ports will now be in effect
