(SM) Support Tip: How to apply the Service Manager license when using a Hardware Load balancer?

How to apply the Service Manager license when using a Hardware Load balancer between the SM clients and SM servers?

Scenario:
In horizontal scaling system, it is always recommended to request a license file which is tied to the software load balancer server IP and to make sure to start the software Load balancer server first.
The software load balancer server doesn’t exist anymore on a system architecture where it is been decided to use a hardware load balancer to distribute the load across the SM servlets.

How to apply a license in this specific scenario?

Answer:
This is an example of a system architecture diagram using a hardware load balancer (see attachment)

There are currently 3 options in this specific scenario.

Option 1:
Example: Two servers with IP 11 .11.11.11 and 11.11.11.12
• Request one license file tied to IP :  11.11.11.*  (with a *)
• Stop all SM servers and upload the license file on each of the SM servers
• Set the parameter groupelicenseip: 11 .11.11.11, 11.11.11.12 in all sm.ini files

Option 2:
Example: Two servers with IP 11 .11.11.11 and 11.11.11.12
• Request two license files, one tied to 11 .11.11.11 and the second one tied to 11.11.11.12
• Stop all SM servers and upload the license file on each of the SM servers
• Set the parameter groupelicenseip: 11 .11.11.11, 11.11.11.12 in all sm.ini files

Option 3: (recommended option)
Example: Two servers with IP 11 .11.11.11 and 11.11.11.12
• Request one license file tied to IP:  11.11.11.11
• Stop all SM servers and upload the license file on each of the SM servers
• Set the parameter groupelicenseip: 11 .11.11.11 in all sm.ini files
Note: For this last option, the SM server with IP 11 .11.11.11 must be the first to be started!
