Manual test (one file) formatting

Manual test (one file) formatting

We were talking to one of our users yesterday about Octane as their team was evaluating it for future use. The one complaint was that she didn't like the format in Octane for manual testing (one file) and she much preferred the format in ALM /QC where you could have your test steps separated into different fields.

The enhancement request is to have an option for manual test cases to create a "Legacy Test Case" in Octane that mimics the Step Name, Description, and Expected Results fields in Quality Center.

Hi,

Don't we have that already? You can change the test script editor from text editor to visual editor.

Text editor:

Visual Editor:

Just click on the buttons - in the screenshots marked in red.

Apologies, this was marked as Accepted by mistake.

I assume the request is to have a grid like view where each row represents multiple Octane steps (action + validation step)

Hi,

Perhaps we could create a very simple design mock so we all have the same understanding how this might look like?

Thanks,

Dirk

Hi,

Perhaps this is a better representation?

Steps example.PNG

Could we perhaps even introduce a new step format for Expected Result? Something like:

-? Make sure dialog E opens

-! Dialog E is open

What do you think?

@Dirk Hedderich this is an option too, though this would be more complicated to add.

I will try to find out who posted this originally so that we can ask him/her as well.

@Tuboysdad are you familiar with this one?

@yael , yes, this was originally my post as a support ticket a while ago. They were looking for a QC like look and feel for manual test cases as you've mocked up above. They really wanted the tabular format. This would also make it much easier to export test cases from QC and import them into the "legacy" format in Octane.

Thanks!

@Tuboysdad great 🙂

Which one of the formats above ( @Dirk Hedderich 's or mine) would they prefer?
