If it is only happening for certain users then you can delete the %temp%\TD_80 folder.

Otherwise if it is affecting all users then you have a problem with the project, and need to run a verify and repair from site admin.

The test cases I was uploading thru excel, was causing this error. Not sure Why? upgrade the patch but it didn't help.

Created new project and new test cases resolved this but its not the proper solution.

We encountered this on 1 set of our test cases after upgrading from v 10 to ALM/11, rendering the test cases useless.  When we used IE8, the X was not there and all test steps were visible.  Still an issue though, since many of our users are on managed XP desktops with IE7.
