Hi, I'm having the same problem with NAM 4.01-88 and changes to Access
Gateway configuration. I tried so many times that I think I cannot
revert to the stable configuration. Awkward thing: I can apply the
configuration, see the error and test the recent changes! What is even
more awkward is that the same problem has now spread to other components
– Identity Server reports the same issue.
Any ideas what to do next?

I think we'll need a little more information.

About the only time I've had issue with pending configuration is if I've upgraded the Access Gateway appliance. There was a bug (not sure if it's fixed in 4.2) where the upgrade script would say all is well, when in fact, it was not.

If you're having issues that have spread to your IDS, then I'd say it's time to open an SR with NetIQ as you may have an Admin Console/eDirectory issue.

If it was just the AG Appliance, and you have an AG Cluster setup, I've gotten around the issue by removing the appliance from the cluster, then deleting the "unconfigured" appliance and reinstalling the appliance from the .ISO and re-inserting into the cluster.

On the AMC, delete the pending command. Then on the access gateway run:

tailf /opt/novell/devman/log/jcc.0.log (or close to that name)

push the update and check the jcc log file on the gateway. Have a look
at what activity it shows.

Repeat the same for the IDPs once you've fixed the pending config issue
on the AG I'd say.

pending config issues can be tricky to troubleshoot. We've had issues
with it in the past when on nam 3.1.4 but since 4.0 it has become a lot
better (we skipped 3.2).

Re: pending configuration

We had same problem with stuck in pending state in NAM 4.0.0. We have
separate servers for the AC, AG and Identity server. After reboot och
the admin console it was possible to apply the changes to the AG and
identity server. Not a big deal for us since the admin console was
installed on a separate server. After upgrading to 4.2 we no longer have
this issue.
