Adding Action to AMHealth Heartbeat KS

Can you explain to me why AMHealth_HeartbeatWin and
AMHealth_HeartbeatUNIX do not have an option to configure an action? Do
I just need to change some property in the KS to make it display the
action tab? I need to be able to set up SMTP email actions when this KS
generates an event. These events do me no good if they simply show in
the console.

I can tell you that Checking out the KS, adding the Action to the
properties, checking it back in, and propagating it does NOT work. The
KS will fail to run afterwards.

Re: Adding Action to AMHealth Heartbeat KS

I guess I can...

Both of these KSs generate a heartbeat. Meaning that they basically send
a data point and event back to the MS. In both cases, these will not
appear in the UI - they are hidden and used by the MS when it checks to
see who is "alive". In simple terms, if a data point is missing when it
is expected to be there (so the MS expects a data point at 10:00am and
the most recent is 9:00am) then the MS will go through a process which
results in an event being generated if the agent is deemed to "really be
down".

The key here is that the MS is generating this event, NOT the job which
is running on the agent. And by MS, I mean the NetIQms service.

Actions are triggered by activity controlled by the agent. Since the
agent in this case is not actually generating the event, it cannot
trigger any action. We took a decision because of this to disable the
action tab (because it was felt that it would be more confusing if you
had the tab, configured an action but then never got the action).

We do recognise that this is a restriction that needs to be lifted. But
at this time, it is in place.

We do have a mechanism that will trigger an action for the events from
this process - it is intended that we will release this in an update to
the AMHealth "module". And no - I do not have a timeframe on that.. PM
might be able to chime in here.

So.. at this time, it is intentional that actions are not available for
these KSs.
