Check-in in KS not Working AM8

Hi All

I am in trying to check-in the AMADMIN_MCGrayedOut40.qml from AppManager
Knowledge Depot.
Unfortunately I get a successful for the check-in from the repository
but can't find the script in within AppManager KS view.
Check-in of other KS is working fine.

Running AppManager 8.0 (Build: 8.0.11241.49)

Thx,
Sergio

Re: Check-in in KS not Working AM8

You'll need to open the KS in the Developer Console. Once in it go to
View->Properties and verify that the AppManager Version is compatible
with the version of AM you are running. You can change it to the version
you are running and check it in. The script may not work though due to
compatability issues.

Re: Check-in in KS not Working AM8

This KS should be redundant now in AM8. It was developed initially
because there was no obvious way to see if an agent had been detected as
down, and thus set to "grey" in the console. Whilst we still do that -
the AMHealth module should pick up a problem with the agent long before
it is set to grey in the first place.

Also, with Control Center, you can have a Management Group that only
displays "grey" agents - so there are a few ways to pick up on this
without the need for this very old KS...

Re: Check-in in KS not Working AM8

Hi Andy

but if i understand AMHealt correct it needs to be able to ICMP to the
Agents in order to perform the checks. Unfortunately we are not able to
ICMP all of them. Therefore Grey Machine still be an option to check...

or is there a way to only have AMHealth to check Agent ports 9998 only
and skip the ICMP stuff?

thx,
Sergio

Re: Check-in in KS not Working AM8

By default ICMP check is on as part of the investigation steps, but you
can turn that off. If you do that then we won;t go and try to find out
if the reason for a HB fail is because of the MC being down, the server
being down etc. But it is still a faster and more reliable mechanism for
telling you the agent has a problem (you could have a situation where
the agent responds and so is not "grey", but is not running jobs for
some reason - the check for "grey" will tell you everything is fine, the
Heartbeat will tell you it isn;t).

So you would need to change the defaults, but you can do what you want
to do ...

Re: Check-in in KS not Working AM8

hi Andy

Thank you for the explanation, does the HeartbeatWin KS needs to be run
on the Management Server or on each client? Because I tried to run it on
the Management Server and I did not get any event after powering off a
Windows Client machine with the agent installed.

thx,
Sergio

Re: Check-in in KS not Working AM8

HeartbeatWin runs on each agent - it simply provides the Heartbeat (in
other words, if you don;t want to include an agent in the check, don;t
run the job on that agent). But the process that verifies the HB is
working is part of the NetIQms service itself

Re: Check-in in KS not Working AM8

HeartbeatWin is now running and it's also reporting if a client is
missing Heartbeat. This work quite well but if I configure the action
tab to send SMTP messages it don't send any on event. Did you had this
before?

Re: Check-in in KS not Working AM8

Ah ;^)

If you look at this KS in the CC UI, you will find that it has no Action
tab. The reason for this is that the KS is NOT responsible for the
events you see relating to a server being down or up. Instead, the MS is
responsible for that - basically the KS just sends the Heartbeat, which
the MS then verifies. If it fails to verify then the MS can take a few
diagnostic steps which you can define (in the job properties) and then
raises an event. Because the MS raises the event, the action cannot be
triggered... so the CC UI hides the tab (the OC UI cannot hide it, but
it is still not used).

We do have a KS which will become part of the AMHealth module which will
allow you to raise actions for these events... If you contact your sales
rep it may be possible for you to get hold of this "early".

Re: Check-in in KS not Working AM8

Dam now I'm back to the grey machine KS... 😞
Any way try to contact them...

So only way to get alerts now is via Ping the all the Servers and raise
events this way.
