[This blog was written together with Michael O'Rourke, the latest addition to our Functional Testing Product Management team]

In their latest Magic Quadrant, Gartner hailed us as the overall market leader for our strong portfolio, rich functionality and support of diverse technology stacks. It should be no surprise therefore that with today’s release of Service pack 14.01, UFT and LeanFT continue their advancement in all of these fronts, in order to support the growing needs of test automation teams in today’s technology-driven and modernization era.

For the purpose of this blog, we will focus on four key features per each product that we believe will have the biggest impact on your productivity.

UFT Pro (LeanFT)

1.   Testing from the Cloud

Instead of managing your cross-platform test lab, you can point LeanFT to your StormRunner Functional (SRF) environment.

Pairing UFT and UFT Pro (LeanFT) to SRF enables you to:UFT_LeanFT_Mars_v27.jpg

A) Store your LeanFT’s tests in the cloud or Burst them from the tool/ALM/CI into the cloud. See more info about these capabilities here

B) Utilize UFT’s cross-browser testing capabilities to run a test on SRF cloud environments, leaving you without the hassle of maintaining environments, machines, or devices.

C) View your run results both in UFT, ALM and SRF, where in the latter, you'll be exposed to so much more information

2.   Dockerize LeanFT

Step into the world of Docker containers and reap its benefits:

B) The perfect execution box. By using one simple command you can run the Docker image, the test, and kill the container when the test is complete. You can also run your tests in the background and continue to work without distraction.

C) CI/CD readiness. Because of the above advantages, Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment are some of the most common use cases of Docker’s users, and now LeanFT fits right it.

To learn more, read this blog about how to run tests in Docker containers.

3.   Record – Review- Generate

You can now start your LeanFT’s test creation by recording the flow on your Web applications.

This should accelerate your test creation and improve your learning curve with this easy-to-use tool.

You can run LeanFT tests scripts in StormRunner Load as part of a performance test, enabling you to reuse functional tests, reduce scripting effort, and sync your functional and performance testing efforts.

This only covers the four main things in our eyes, but there are plenty more in this service pack, so make sure to read the what's new document when you have a chance.

1.   Testing from the Cloud

Similar to what was mentioned above in the UFT Pro (LeanFT) use cases, with the UFT integration to the newly created StormRunner Functional (SRF).

2.   JavaFX

Prior to this release, JavaFX was supported via UI Automation Add-in. UFT 14.01 now includes JavaFX natively with UFT’s java.jpgJava Add-in.

This allows you to map JavaFX application objects to existing Java test objects without any pre-work.

3.   Angular 2.0 and 4.0

Subsequent to AngularJS, Google evolved its front-end framework into Angular (sans “JS”), thereby leading to its rapid increase in popularity. UFT’s Web Add-in now provides the means to test how controls behave with Angular 2.0 and Angular 4.0.

4.   Non-Modal Spy

One of the many efficiency enhancements includes our Object Spy. With UFT 14.01, you are able to use the Object Spy continuously throughout UFT sessions without having to close the Spy dialog box to edit tests. In addition, test objects can now be stored through the Spy into any available object repository.

Wrap Up

While this blog covers a subset of UFT’s functionality, we hope it was enough to convince you to give it a try. More details about this and other new features will be covered in upcoming blogs and webinars.
