APM 9.3 Disaster Recovery Cleanup Procedure

Jump to solution

Hello community,

There is a couple of questions in regard to cleanup procedure in disaster recovery from apm installation guide.

There are two questions;

1) Is it possible to have the same value for The URL used by data collectors to access the GW server in APM=The URL used by users to access APM?

Please check my understadning below:

default.core.server.url = gateway
default.centers.server.url = dps

2) APM installation guide pg 78 #7, there is an instruction for each key in the table, modify and run the following query:

* update SETTING_PARAMETERS set SP_VALUE='<newmachinename>' where SP_CONTEXT='platform' and SP_NAME='default.core.server.url'

Since I have a distributed systems which consists of 3 GW and 2 DPS, if i have 3 GW's newmachinename, is below the correct query?

*update SETTING_PARAMETERS set SP_VALUE='<newmachinename1>,<namemachinename2>,<newmachinename3>' where SP_CONTEXT='platform' and SP_NAME='default.core.server.url'

Thanks in advance,

Here is what you need:

update SETTING_PARAMETERS set SP_VALUE='http://ems-apm.xxx:80; where SP_CONTEXT='platform' and SP_NAME='default.centers.server.url'

update SETTING_PARAMETERS set SP_VALUE='http://ems-apmdata.xxx:80; where SP_CONTEXT='platform' and SP_NAME='default.core.server.url'

Unlike DPS, there is no such thing as "primary GW", as all GW servers are treated equally.

1. Your understanding is incorrect. Virtual names (URLs) for data collectors and users are different because they are configured differently at Load Balancer (see product documentation for details).

2.  Incorrect again. The default.core.server.url setting is for the virtual name for data collectors. It has nothing to do with individual GW server names, nor with how many GW servers make up this APM instance.

Thanks Dmitry for clarification.

I do want to double check my understanding here one more time.

Direct GW server for application users server url = default.centers.server.url
Direct GW server for data collector url = default.core.server.url
Local virtual GW server for application users url = virtual.centers.server.url
Local virtual GW server for data collector url = virtual.core.server.url

I've attached the screen shot for the platform administration - host configuration as a reference.

The below is GWs
HQV1-SEMAP-401 (primary), HQV1-SEMAP-403 , HQV1-SEMAP-404

The below is DPS
HQV1-SEMAP-402 (primary), HQV1-SEMAP-405

Two types of traffic will need to be load balanced for this application: User traffic and data traffic. Because there are two types of traffic, there need to be 2 types of Virtual IP addresses (VIPs) defined.

ems-apm.xxx is USER VIP
ems-apmdata.xxx is DATA VIP

Above is the current systems information. So my question goes,

update SETTING_PARAMETERS set SP_VALUE ='http://HQV1-SEMAP-401:80' where SP_CONTEXT='platform' and SP_NAME='default.core.server.url'

update SETTING_PARAMETERS set SP_VALUE= 'http://HQV1-SEMAP-401;80' where SP_CONTEXT='platform' and SP_NAME='default.centers.server.url'

update SETTING_PARAMETERS set SP_VALUE='http://ems-apm.xxx:80; where SP_CONTEXT='platform' and SP_NAME='virtual.centers.server.url'

update SETTING_PARAMETERS set SP_VALUE='http://ems-apmdata.xxx:80; where SP_CONTEXT='platform' and SP_NAME='virtual.core.server.url'

Does above update look correct? or Am I still making a mistake?

Thanks,
