APM RUM 9.30 - Mobile App monitoring queries

Jump to solution

I have couple of queries related to mobile app monitoring using HP RUM .

1. Does HP RUM use mobile's location services to populate location in the dashboard of mobile report ?

2. What are the scenarios on which mobile app crash reports are generated ?

Hi Gopinash,

When mobile application is crashing, it is throwing uncaught "exception\error" object to stacktrace and terminates it's work. It is true for both iOS (swift code) and Android apps (Java). There can be many (including customly defined) types of thrown exception caused by different reasons: resource allocation, code problems, arithmetic operations and many many more.

You can take a look on Adnstroid SDK Errors and Exceptions classes. (I am pretty sure you can google similar for swift).

RUM will capture app crash (for Android just during the crash, for iOS - on next application start ) and report it as Crash Event, that will contain the following info: When it happened, Client, Location + text of stacktrace. This information should help Mobile Dev to troubleshoot the reasons behind the crash event.

Best regards, Alexey

Hi Gopinath Manickam,

1. No, RUM is not able to use any 3-rd party location detection services. Location are identified by client IP through internal GeoMap. You can redefine manually Location.

2.  Mobile application (iOS or Android) crashed. In that case, instrumented application is reporting about crash including StackTrace.
