Create rule on ArcMC for inactive devices

Can we create a rule in ArcMC to notify when a device goes inactive. The default dashboard shows the list of inactive devices since last 20 minutes, can we create a rule with similar condition?

Thanks in advance!!

My recent post here should cover some of the high level aspects of what you can do with ArcMC and device status monitoring.

Dear Paul,

Your reply is really helpful. But our client specifically require to be notified via email when a host goes now. Is it possible to create a rule or any way by which device inactivity can be alerted?

Thanks in advance!!

in software version, email notifications can be set by following these steps. :

** your smtp server must be set first **

Administration --> System Admin --> SMTP

Then,

To configure email notifications:

  1. In a text editor, open the file .../userdata/arcmc/logger.properties. (If the file does not exist, you can create it in a text editor.)
  2. Add a new line with the new property named monitoring.notification.emails and a value equal to a comma-separated list of email addresses of all administrators you intend to receive notifications. For example, this value would send email alerts to address1@example.com and address2@example.com:monitoring.notification.emails=address1@example.com,
    address2@example.com
  3. Save the modified logger.properties file.
  4. Restart the ArcMC web process.
  5. In the rules editor, open the notification rule you wish to trigger an email alert, and under Notify Me, select Email.
