DSTP Meaning

Hi,

I have a syslog Daemon SmartConnector receiving Operaing System Logs from Unix systems.

When I send a Get Status Command to this SmartConnector it appear a list of devices and addresses called DSTP

What does DSTP mean?

Here you have an example of the output

DSTP[xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx|402].....................2
DSTP[xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx|402]....................3
DSTP[xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx|402].....................5
DSTP[xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx|402].....................6
DSTP[xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx|402].............5
DSTP[xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx|402]..............................3
Device [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx|xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx|Unix|Unix] eventcount..1
Device [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx|xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx|Unix|Unix] eventcount..7552
Device [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx|xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx|Unix|Unix] eventcount..4333

Regards.

Re: DSTP Meaning

I am curious about this also and I do not see it called out in the config guide so if anyone knows what this means please do tell.

Re: DSTP Meaning

Could that be related to this:

#

# Device Side Table Descriptor Protector (not normally used)

#

# send internal events every minute

dstprotector.internaleventfrequency=60000

dstprotector.count=2

dstprotector[0].field=deviceProcessName

dstprotector[0].alternatefield=destinationProcessName

dstprotector[0].maxsize=1000

dstprotector[1].field=deviceExternalId

dstprotector[1].alternatefield=deviceCustomString6

dstprotector[1].maxsize=10

from agent.defaults.properties.

Re: DSTP Meaning

I'm getting the same thing on my Syslog connector and would love to know what it means.  Do we have any HP/ArcSight employees on this site that could help with this?

Thanks,

Eric

Re: DSTP Meaning

I have asked the Protect724 team to look into that and it seems to work now.

Re: DSTP Meaning

DSTP = Device Side Table Protector

The DSTP settings pointed out in the connector are used to control the variability of data in certain fields, of which 'deviceProcessName' and 'deviceExternalId" are enabled out of the box for a smartconnnector. The 'maxsize' value means that once 1000 different values of deviceProcessName have been seen, the smartconnector may stop populating that field, so as to prevent performance bottlenecks in the database.

As best I know, side tables are only used in Oracle-based versions of ESM, and therefore if you have a CORR-E based version, you can disable the side-table protector by setting dstprotector.count=2
