Installing Logger on CentOS VM

Jump to solution

Hi,

I was trying out the Logger on a VM but it doesn't seem to install. What is the minimum disk space needed for installation on VM?

Error output:

Preparing to install...
WARNING: /tmp does not have enough disk space!
Attempting to use /home/user1 for install base and tmp dir.
Extracting the JRE from the installer archive...
Unpacking the JRE...
Extracting the installation resources from the installer archive...
Configuring the installer for this system's environment...

Launching installer...

./ArcSight-logger-5.0.0.5355.2.bin: line 2506: /home/user1/install.dir.5409/Linux/resource/jre/bin/java: cannot execute binary file
./ArcSight-logger-5.0.0.5355.2.bin: line 2506: /home/user1/install.dir.5409/Linux/resource/jre/bin/java: Success

--> no activity after this.

I had the same problem: you are using the 32 bit version of CentOS.

Use the x86_64 version!

Logger require 64 bit!

To be sure about the version use

[root@server ~]# uname -a
Linux server1.example.com 2.6.18-92.1.13.el5 #1 SMP Wed Sep 24 19:33:52 EDT
2008 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

a 64 Bit CentOS Linux Server should answer int his way:

[root@server ~]# uname -a
Linux server.example.com 2.6.18-53.1.21.el5 #1 SMP Tue May 20 09:35:07 EDT
2008 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Alessandro

JQ,

Perhaps try running the install with '-i console'

I've seen aborted installations because of the inability to properly execute using gui and not always with an error saying it was missing some X library.

Re: Installing Logger on CentOS VM

Hi

I have got this running in a VM with the following specs:

  • 2.5 GB RAM
  • 120 GB HDD
  • Cent OS 5.5 x64

This is a simple install and should be up and running quickly. As mentioned previouslty if you are not seeing the install window when installing the logger odds are you have the wrong arch OS.

Hope this helps

Re: Installing Logger on CentOS VM

I agree, while they seem to only support Centos 5.5, I do have the lates logger release on 5.6.

My VM (Fusion) is:

Logger 5.1.0.5887.0

2 CPU's

Ram 4096

Disk 120 GB

Good luck, so far I am logging from Syslog devices.

Bob

PS: Always make sure that after you do a yum update and actually update, that you restart your machine before doing a logger install!

Re: Installing Logger on CentOS VM

I know this is an old thread but, just to add a bit more info, the min disk space is 10GB - at least that what I had to provide in a VM when I installed a test system to play with.
