RFC - Metrics and Executive Reporting

Hello ArcSight Users,

We are looking for your input on metrics that you want to generate and report on using ESM.  What numbers do you need to provide to upper management and executives?  Please provide the following details:

Metric Name
Description
Units
Formula (in English or math expression)
Example
Display Method (see below)

Here's an example:

Metric Name:  Mean Time to Incident Discovery
Description:  Average amount of time, in hours, that elapses between incidents’ first event, and the discovery that the incident is occurring.  This metric should trend downward over time due to implementation of a security program.
Units:  Hours per incident
Formula:  For all cases opened in the time period, subtract end time of first event in case from case creation time, and divide by number of cases
Example:  2 hours per incident
Display Method:  Bar chart of weekly average, with line showing moving average over all time/cases.  Insert chart into report or dashboard.  Right click on chart elements to drill into details.

We are also looking for suggestions to enhance dashboards, reports, and other resources so that the information can be conveyed to the proper audience.  Please give detailed examples so that we can evaluate the technical possibilities and assess the best way to enable you to create excellent executive reports and dashboards.  Feel free to include your suggestions in the "Display Method" portion of an example metric.

Thanks,
Ryan
