AM DB unicode conversion

Hello community,

I would like to know the effects, constraints, including the advantages and disadvantages of AM DB unicode conversion. 

To reduce the effects caused by "CONVERT_ IMPLICIT" while running certain queries at DB level, which was found for the unicode conversions, a possibility to change the table definition so that the columns are defined as Unicode is considered. 

To perform this, there is an option through Application Designer (in Docs). I am not sure exactly, how it might effect the performance. I would like to know the effects, efforts required, requirements, advantages and disadvantages of this change on the overall performance of the queries.
