Stocks and Locations

Jump to solution

Could someone explain the best practices for setting up Stocks and Locations?  Should both be used?  What's the best relationship and/or naming standards between the two?

Hello,

There aren't any real best practices for the stock or location of that stock. It all comes down to what makes the most sense for your organization.

So a stock room name could be descriptive if what it has in it or could incorporate a location/site in the name.

LIke Building 2 Printer supply stock room located on the 2nd floor.

Or PC storage center, location is an actual address or building, depending on the level of detail you might have in your location table.

But it's sort of an 'it all depends' question. What best helps the organization ID and locate the stock rooms? Should the Name of the stock room be descriptive of what it has in it or a combo of what it has in it and a location?

In our demo db, we have for example  IS Reserve with a location selected from the location table.  So using the 2 fields can help you ID what stock room it is, potentially naming it with more of a description on what's in the stock room and perhaps even a location in the name.  And you can select a location from the amLocation table to locate the stock room.

Not sure that helps, but it all depends on what will be best for your organization.

Thanks,

David
