Problems with ZAM Client

Good Morning Group!

We have had problems with the ZAM client.

1.) Why the devil does it want to reinstall on every new profile created on the workstation? This causes a lot of support calls as people do not know what it is.

2.) I am pushing the client out with Zenworks as a system process. Why on user (as opposed to power user or administrator) profiles does it error out with installshield errors?

ZAM 7.5, most workstations are XP SP2. Zenworks for Desktops version is 7

hey Brian,

1. NAL apps that have been set to users (guessing it has been set to run
once only) will always run once for every user logged in as this option
relies on data stored in EACH users profile. a new profile would reflex
that the NAL app has never been run, hence ZDM launches the app.

Alternatively you could set the application to run once per workstation,
(although i don't particularly like this method, due to the volatile nature
of WS Objects). i would suggest creating a "Distribution Rule" that looks
for a file or registry entry that is created by the ZAM client, if exists,
don’t install.

2. i am guessing you are deploying the app as the "secure/unsecure system
user"...
possible reasons "Run Normal" may not be working is local administrative
privileges are not set? user may not have rights to install software?
this would be a place to start. apologies if you have already checked
this 😉
if you could post some errors, it would be helpful to diagnose your
problems.
