Dealing with IP addresses in asset manager?

Jump to solution

So, up till now, the information added to asset manager was serial numbers, model numbers, etc.

One of the support team has requested assistance in uploading IP addresses to desktops, laptops, etc.

1. Does anyone out there have that information stored in your asset manager? Where did you put it? Is there a field in some table for IP Addresses?

2. We already have the basic asset information in the system for these items - only the IP address needs to be added. However, the support team would rather not have to manually type in 2000 or so IP addresses - or for that matter, update IP addresses manually when networks are reconfigured, etc.

What is a way - different from connect-it (because we have no experience with it and I am not even certain we still have it in house) - that could be used to maintain IP addresses?  Assume that the support team could generate a CSV type file in some format - is there a way to get it that way? They have powershell expertise - is there a way to maintain the information that way?

Thank you.

Hi Lwvirden,

Here is some information for your questions,

1. Yes, AM has a field in which you can input the IP Address of a device. This can be done in the portfolio items table, in the networking tab of the selected item. It can also be done in the IT Computer table, selecting an item and the looking at the networking tab of the details of that item.

2. If you are not using another tool like CIT or UCMDB, this has to be done manually, as every computer will have an unique IP Address. Another option you can use, is to do a mass update from a text file. This is more documented in the Administration guide chapter 12, Import. Here you can see the options to import information in AM.

Please let us know if there is any question.
