All of us need a sense of purpose, a reason to apply our energy and passion to something that matters. I wake up each morning with a mental list of key priorities, and a longer list of other tasks that are necessary but not nearly as important. I work hard to stay focused on what really matters, but I can’t deny that I often get distracted, leading to a lot of open Skype chat windows, email drafts, and an incomplete or less than impressive outcome for the things that matter most. Except, of course, when it comes to my dog -- my sense of canine purpose is never compromised.
With hacking, malware, ransomware and simple human errors surrounding us every day, security breaches are not an “if” but a “who” – and I don’t want that “who” to be any Vertica customer. Plus, with the deluge of data privacy regulations, headlined by GDPR but including countries and states and industries with their own strict regulations, the risk of exposing personal and identifiable information is extreme.
No one can deny that Data Warehousing as a Service (DWaaS) is impacting our customer conversations and I fully understand. After all, what could be better than simply handing over your data and letting someone else manage everything? All you need is a nice visualization tool that delivers the dashboards, reports and ad hoc queries right to the screen in front of you?
It’s amazing to see our customers ‘crush it’ when it comes to their implementation and best practices industry awards. That’s why I was so happy to hear that Cerner, a long-time Vertica customer, is the recipient of TDWI’s Best practices award for data warehouse.
