DataFlowProbe - Separated gateway and manager

Hello,

Version 9 : when probe is installed in separated mode to have 1 Gateway and more than 1 Manager using this gateway, in DataFlowProbe Management UI we saw only one probe and so we can't define spécific IP range for each manager.

Version 10.10 : is there some improvement for gateway and manager in separated mode ?

There is cluster probe, but it's not the same goal.

Re: DataFlowProbe - Separated gateway and manager

Hello Steve,

This configuration (i.e. configuring probe Gateway and e.g. 2 Managers on 3 different machines) is supported in 10.10 and there were a number of fixes done for this issue.

Irina

Re: DataFlowProbe - Separated gateway and manager

Hello Irina,

thanks for this answer.

But can you confirm that now in version 10.10, in UI, I'll see each manager separatly ?

In v9, I saw only one manager so it's impossible to define specific IP range for each manager.

Re: DataFlowProbe - Separated gateway and manager

Hi Steve,

please keep in mind that separate mode isn't longer recommended and this feature will be obsolete in a future version.

Maybe you should have a look into the new feature "Probe Cluster": "Users can now create clusters of multiple Data Flow Probes, enabling automatic distribution of IP ranges across the probes. Probe clusters also provide central management of the probes from the user interface".

Re: DataFlowProbe - Separated gateway and manager

Steve,

In the past the separate gateway and manager probe deployment was sometimes used to overcome memory limitations emposed on the 32-bit JRE on Windows. If that was your consideration for using this mode, please note that UD 10.10 probes make use of the 64-bit Java JRE, so even a single probe (where probe manager and gateway are deployed on the same machine) can use much more memory if needed.

Thanks,

  Vitaly
