Database Disk Space allocation when migrating from DDMi and DDMa to UD

Jump to solution

In the uCMDB Deployment 10.10 deployment doc,  it is mentioned upgrade will need 250% space normally required by cmdb.

  • The upgrade requires approximately 250% of the space normally required for the CMDB schema. Make sure you allocate this space.

Questions:

- Will this be 250% of the current utilized space in uCMDB + uCMDB_History in 9.05 instance or Is it just 250% OF Ucmdb Schema?

- How to calculate how much more disk space will be needed for DDMi migration to UD. We now have DDMi collector data in MYSQL database and DDMa data in SQL Server, but once migrated to UD for DDMa and DDMi,  will this data from MySQL database get loaded to SQL Server database in uCMDB / UD database schema?

Hi,

The answer to your first question is that the upgrade from UCMDB 9.05 to UCMDB 10.10 requires approximately 250% of the current utilized space in uCMDB + uCMDB_History in 9.05 instance.

Claudia

Hello,

UCMDB uses either MSSQL or ORACLE databases, it will not be using MYSQL as its main database in DDMI.

It is best to consider increasing the database size and the disk size in the UCMDB and Histrory databases, also have sufficient disk space in the UCMDB server for the application.

In addition, consider increasing the size of the UCMDB databases.

Thanks for the reply.  I am still not clear on the following..

Does UD have My SQL database like DDMi Collector for doing agent based discovery for  UD agent data.  We already are using SQL server for uCMDB and Probes just not sure how the database is going to be for UD for it's agent based discovered data.    Since DDMi server uses MySql to store the data collected by DDMi collectors, what is the formula to calculate how much additional disk space is needed in UD for agent based discovered data once we migrate to uCMDB 10.10 and UD.

Thanks Claudia, that answered my first question. I have a follow-up question for that question.

From the deployment guide, I understand that there will not be ucmdb_history in uCMDB 10.10, will the exisitng data from uCMDB_History 9.05 get copied to the new uCMDB 10 - schema during the upgrade.

Hello,

In addition to Claudia's answer, the Data Flow Probe has a MYSQL server in UCMDB/DDM installation  and will continue to have a Mysql server for each data flow probe  in Universal Discovery 10.01 however in 10.10 it uses Postgress database for  the Data Flow Probe.

Hi,

Indeed there is no UCMDB history schema in UCMDB 10.10.

In UCMDB 10.10 there is only one UCMDB schema that stores also the history data.

During the upgrade, all history data that are in the time range of the "History Months To Save Back" setting will be moved to the UCMDB 10.10 schema.

All the details about how the history upgrader works are described in the Deployment Guide under the Upgrader sections -> History Upgrader.

Also, details about how History works in UCMDB 10.10 are described in the UCMDBAdministration document, section History Storage and Purging in UCMDB.

Regards,

Claudia

Ana-acosta, Can you please send me link to a document to read more about Postgress database that is deployed with UDi.
