Desperately Seeking Susan.. or at least a UCMDB Demo Database

I'm building integrations with UCMDB. I'd like to test these against v11 but i don't have a populated and configured database to do this. There used to be a demo960en (?) database for 9.60 that we used to integrate with.

Does anyone know of a demo instance or database that we can copy/clone /import to save us having to setup UCMDB v11 from scratch? Our expertise in more in integrating our product via the APIs than installing and configuring UCMDB.

So what actually do you need?
Demo CIs in UCMDB or in AM?

Re: Desperately Seeking Susan.. or at least a UCMDB Demo Database

The 9.60 demo db we worked with was setup with locations/CIs/users. Everything basically.

I don't need to put my own data into UCMDB, rather integrate data from my company's product into UCMDB. Setting up everything (for non-UCMDB specialists) is not something that we have the expertise that y'all have!

I have a support call open with Microfocus and we'll see if they can find anything.

Hello Matthew,

there is an experimental discovery adapter which will import data from Communication logs with results included. Maybe this will be an alternative as you can reuse the CommLogs from the Prod probes.

And in 6 years I didn't hear about the Susan demo DB 🙂

Re: Desperately Seeking Susan.. or at least a UCMDB Demo Database

That was a bad joke - designed to make my question stand out. "Desperately Seeking Susan" was a bad movie in the 1980's starring Madonna.

The demo database we used before was called something like demo960en. I'm "desperately seeking" an equivalent for v11 (and instructions on how to add it and it's configuration into my environment).

There is no Susan DB, apologies for any confusion caused.

Re: Desperately Seeking Susan.. or at least a UCMDB Demo Database

We don't have any discovery probes, we do not use UCMB or universal discovery in-house. Rather, we build an integration between our products and UCMDB. We are looking for a configured db to use to validate our integration against - a test/demo database with dummy data.

Did you try to export from Prod and import into your Test with the JMX method exportModelData / importModelData ?

We do not have a production instance and never will - per my previous responses, we are setting up a dummy instance to test an integration product.

Re: Desperately Seeking Susan.. or at least a UCMDB Demo Database

So you need dummy data in your UCMDB?
What kind of CIs and topolgies?
As I said, we have an experimental pseudo discovery adapter which will import CIs from actual discovery. Those CIs can be anonymized hence they would be good for testing the integration.

Re: Desperately Seeking Susan.. or at least a UCMDB Demo Database

If we were to use the pseudo-discovery integration, we would need to configure the following:

  1. Discovery
  2. Run discovery on our production network
  3. Pseudo-Discovery integration
  4. UCMDB

Is there not a demo/testing database that could be used? There must be a simpler way of doing this? Can you not reach out to someone who knows more about this?

Would Microfocus be able to provide services to undertake this work?

Re: Desperately Seeking Susan.. or at least a UCMDB Demo Database

No. You would need only to state what CITs and topologies do you need.

I'm not aware of any demo/testing database. Maybe somebody from PreSales has something like that.

This is a simple way to do it.

Not at this moment, no.
