Discovering KVM based virtual machines

Hi,

We are experiencing some issues with detecting VMs running on KVM platform where serial numbers are not automatically allocated.

Is there a way around this asside from editing our own serial number?

Can UD detect the VMs using UUID as serial number instead?

Re: Discovering KVM based virtual machines

Hi,

General speaking, serial number is not a must have attribute for a host. Node can be modeled by lots of attributes, e.g. hostname, bios uuid and so on. Could you describe more details of the issues and what kind of jobs you use to discover?

Re: Discovering KVM based virtual machines

Hi Kane,

Our UD engine is failing to discover KVM based VMs.

To be more specific, its the push from UD to Asset Management system that is failing due to the lack of serial numbers.

So the real problem is that these instances are not showing in the end user console.

Thanks,

Ron
