Git for version control of DataFlowProbe integration adapter mapping files

Has anyone tried to use git for version control of DataFlowProbe integration adapter mapping files in UCMDB / RTSM?  Do you think it would work in-situ?  That is, git commands run in that directory, which would bring down a .git subdirectory for tracking as it pushes files up to git.

I have considered linking this subdirectory to a git repo, with some .gitignore settings to prevent irrelevant files from being controlled.

/opt/hp/UCMDB/DataFlowProbe/runtime/probeManager/discoveryConfigFiles/ServiceNowGenericAdapter
... because the mapping xml files under there can change quite a bit as Integration is configured toward some optimum.

I would still use the UCMDB UI to edit the mappings; this version control would only be for backup and diff analysis purposes only.
