HP UCMDB & AM : Best practice for dealing with VM

I'm was wondering if there are any best practice or process guide for dealing with Virtual Machine.

Our environment is consist of about 80% Virtual Machine and these VM get taken down and rebuilt very often.

Sometime VM are rebuilt with different spec, serial number but with same name.

The problem that we are facing is that when VM are recreated and not updated in AM, UCMDB would have duplication. One from discovery with the new serial and one from AM with the old serial.

If we update the status in AM to retire, which will prevent AM population from populating that node. But when push new VM with updated serial, it will failed due to the unique name constraint.

Anyone facing the same issue? Any exisitng white paper or best practice on how to deal with these VM?
