How to discover IBM Storage Array DS8000 using Ucmdb 10.11 and UD 10.11 CP 13.00 on windows.

We are running UCMDB/UD 10.11 with CP13.00 on windows with one windows UD Probe.

We are trying to discover and then deep dive IBM storage device DS 8000 (array) (current version of the firmware [7.7.41.50] ) and the IBM stotage admin creaed discovery  user account and ebabled CIM on the storage device and we are using CIM protocol and using the discovery jobs. 1. Range IP's by ICMP and then run and then run 2. : Storage Devices connection by CIM.

We got the user credential fo IBM DS 8000 IBM storage array and the user has following permissions.

The user role has access to all read-only non security service functions and all DS8000 resources.

We set up credential test for CIM with Secure connection = true and port # 5989 using probe

and we received the error message for the crential test: Failed to establish the connection to any namespace.

Storage devices connection by CIM discovery supports SMI-S version 1.50, TPD namespace, and gives generic support for the CIM namespace.

How to configure the CIM user for the namespace and which name space? root/tpd or root/ibm ? but root/ibm is not supported as in uCMDB 10.11 root/ibm is not supported even thogh it is published as supported name space. There is a ER pending on thi issue.

Pls help me on how to configure the CIM  user id to a named space and which nbamed space and what are the steps for discovering the IBM DS 8700 Storage array and how to do a deep dive (Storage device tolopology by CIM) and what other info we need to complete the two discovery jobs device connection by CIM and device topology by CIM.

Thanks,

Jag

to discover. The credential test failed saying failed to establish connection to any named space.
We need to know
how to assign /configure the user id to a namespace(s)
hOW TO ENABLE cim AGENT ON ibm ds 8000 ARRAY
wHAT PORT NUMBER TO BE USED IN THE CREDENTIAL TEST
wHERE ARE THE NAMEDSPACES RESIDE ION THE ds8000

Hello,

So far, the SMI-S discovery doesn't support IBM Storage Array DS8000.

There is an existing ER created to address this in the future Content Pack.

Thanks.

llo Jun -Jie,

We have a ticket #4652536572 for this issue and not happy when we heard from support IBM storage device discovery is not supported on 10.11 eventhough the 10.11 relese notes it is mentioned as supported and in 10.11 discovery manuals too it is mentioned as supported.  Here is the reply from support /R&D on this issue.

When we asjed Support what do you mean by run SMI0S dumper utility they r&D told support guys that run Storage device connection by CIM job on the IBM DS 8000 device (Pls red the mail from HP product support) and pls let me know if you have further info on how to configure user id to name space/which name space etc.

Here is the email from dupport...

Hello Jag, Clay,

Hope you are great,

After some internal conversation with our Managers we get some feedback from R&D about the ER.

The first question that R&D made is that if you have a storage management system (e.g. SE, SOM, ECC, etc.) in place that you can integrate UCMDB with and bring this information?

Second one is that this is an ER, but to even start the development on this, R&D need access to the IBM device.

Can you run the SMI-S Dumper utility against this device and attached the data collected?

Based on that, R&D might be able to plan this ER for the content pack after CP18 (which is next).

Thanks and will waiting for your comments.

Regards.

Luis Rodrigo Rojas Rojas SW Support Engineer

Hi Luis,

Here is the info on our existing IBM storage devices and how they are managed at FEPOC. The following information is already sent to Clay 2 to 3 weeks back.

Any update on the details of SMI-S dumper utility from R&D ? Pls let us know so that I can run the utility and send the data collected by this tool back to you (HP Support)

 Hi Luis,

The IBM Storage platforms – we have both the IBM DS8870 and the DS8000, XIV, and V7000.  These storage platforms are currently configured for both Mainframe storage and UNIX LUNs. The IBM Storage system is managed by the IBM product – TPC (Tivoli Productivity Center

since we have different IBM storage systems, the DS8000 Storage Management on DS8K’s and V7000’s are V7000 Storage Management.

Thanks,

Jag
