How to use discovery jobs in HP UCMDB for discovery

Hi,

I am learning HP UCMDB 9.05

I can see there are discovery jobs under Data Flow Management/Discovery Control Panel and I believe these are the DDMA jobs.

I want to use one of the jobs for discovering a single IP range.

Please can you let me how can I do this and what steps to follow.

Thanks in advance.

Re: How to use discovery jobs in HP UCMDB for discovery

My suggestion, is to start learning from OTTB examples.

In your question you mentioned discovery of specific IP range. The correlated dicovery job is "Range IPs by ICMP".

Start from understanding of what trigger TQL, adapter, parameters are. CHeck python script associated with the job.

Ready Developer Reference Guide. I'll attach one for your convinience.

Re: How to use discovery jobs in HP UCMDB for discovery

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I wanted to know how can I use this job to discover this IP range. Where do I need to configure this IP range and get it discovered by this job.

Please can anybody help me with this.

Thanks in advance

Re: How to use discovery jobs in HP UCMDB for discovery

1. Go to Data Flow Managent -> Data Flow Probe Setup.

2. Find and choose your probe. On the right there is New Ip Range (yellow asterisk).

3. Add new domain.

4. Go to Discovery Control Panel.

5. Right Click on the "Range IPs by ICMP" job -> Activate.

6. After some time IPs from the range will be populated to UCMDB.

Re: How to use discovery jobs in HP UCMDB for discovery

Hi Dima,

Thanks for the reply.

I have one question though how do the Probe know which job to execute because I dont see that we related the "Range IPs by ICMP" job to this probe.

Thanks

Re: How to use discovery jobs in HP UCMDB for discovery

This is a loaded question.

Every discovery job has trigger TQL and "probe limit".

Probe limit saying on which probe job will be running. The default all probes.

Hope this helps.
