Mac Serial Number missing from Scanner Inventory

All,

Just checking to see if anybody has run into an issue where the inventory scanner does not pick up the serial number on Mac's.  The serial number is used for reconciliation in the Asset Manager integration so it's causing us not to push the Mac's

Thanks,

Re: Mac Serial Number missing from Scanner Inventory

Hi Rose,

have you tried opening the scanner files, which come from the MAC? You can find them archived somewhere in the probe folders. Check all the attributes there, most probably you will find the serial number somewhere, but it is just not mapped in UCMDB.

Re: Mac Serial Number missing from Scanner Inventory

Hola RRose,

ioreg -l | awk '/IOPlatformSerialNumber/ { print $4;}'

Estoy atento de lo que suceda,

Re: Mac Serial Number missing from Scanner Inventory

Well the scanner can automate this. If for some reason doesn't catch the serial number, you can always write to MF support. I believe that the serial number is captured somewhere, maybe not in the serial number field. You can always open the file with a notepad, after unzipping it (set the extension to .tar.gz) and search for the string of the machine serial number.

if you don't want to, you can execute the command, written by marsella in the scanner as pre-post scanner commandpost-scanner-command.PNG

You can read the DataFlowManagement pdf, which describes this in "Custom Hardware or Asset Mapping" section. You can basically do everything automatically! The process however is a bit more complex for a simple online thread.

Hello RRose,

I wonder if you could solve the problem and know how you solved it.
