Monitor availability and performance of probes and discovery jobs

Hi,

What is the best way to monitor that all scheduled jobs are running as expected, and the data is being processed correctly by the probes and CMDB? We have experienced cases when certain jobs "hang" and unless one manually checks every individual probe, it is not easy to detect when certain discovery jobs have stopped working. Is there any method via JMX or elsewhere where the overall status or discovey "health" can be monitored non-interatively e.g. via a script? Or are there certain places or log files we should monitor to keywords that would indicate problems?

Thanks!

Re: Monitor availability and performance of probes and discovery jobs

On UCMDB 10.10 you have following options via JMX console on the probe side available at  http://probehostname:1977:

1.  GwTaskResultDistributer Method could show is there are unsent results. Existence of unsent results will show either performance problems on UCMDB side or connection problem between server and probe.

2. JobsInformation -> viewJobsStatuses will show you what jobs are scheduled, Last and Next invocation time and many other information.  Please be advise that most of this information available in GUI.

It could be helpful if you could explain what problems you afaraid of.

Re: Monitor availability and performance of probes and discovery jobs

Hello,

One option may be the viewjobstatus, you may refer to the HP Univesal CMDB JMX Reference guide for more details, or go to Data Flow Management > Data flow probe status.

Hope this helps,

An overview is available on the Data Flow Management -> Data Flow Probe Status in the UCMDB GUI as well.

Re: Monitor availability and performance of probes and discovery jobs

Thanks all for your suggestions.

I am aware of the JMX and GUI mentioned, however it is tedious if you have many probe servers and you need to do it for each one. I was exploring if there was a way to automate this procedure so we can be proactively notified on an exception basis.
