Performance uCMDB and CM after start of CM

Hi All,
we have upgraded uCMDB from 9.05 to 10.21 and installed CM 10.21.
After start of CM, the performance of uCMDB decrease and becomes unresponsive.

Are you familiar with this behavior?

Thanks,
Giuseppe

Re: Performance uCMDB and CM after start of CM

Hello Giuseppe,

Welcome to the UCMDB community forum.

We are glad to hear that you have successfully migrate to the recent UCMDB version. Please note, you also need to install the latest UCMDB Browser version on both server and CM side. The installation steps are described on the 'UCMDB Browser Installation and Configuration' guide, chapter 'Upgrade the UCMDB Browser Embedded in Configuration Manager'.

Furthermore, you can slightly increase the java heap space. You can do that by navigating to the CM folder \tomcat\bin\ and run from a command prompt tomcat7w.exe //ES//HPUCMDBCM1010server0
A pane will pop-up and you can increase the setting values (initial and max memory) from there.

Best Regards,

Nikola

Re: Performance uCMDB and CM after start of CM

Hi Giuseppe,

Can you please respond with the bottom 300 or so lines of your UCMDB Slow.log?

CM is just an interface to the UCMDB that does different functions, using the same technoligies, such as TQLs. When I have seen CM impact slowly, it is usully a resource settings (fuse) issue with the number of TQL active in both UCMDB and CM. CM runs those TQLs at intervals, which can be seriously problematic with patterns. CM will execute them every 10 minutes by default, but the patterns by UCMDB default only update at fixed intervals that are much longer.

There are other issues we can track down, but the starting point is going to be see what the Slow.log is telling us. If it has no obivous issues, then we'll for configuration issues.

Re: Performance uCMDB and CM after start of CM

Hi,

It is important to know if UCDMB and CM are installed on the same machine.

Also when CM starts it can cause UCMDB performance issue as it has to sync up with UCDMB on the managed views. So it is important to know how many views are managed by CM. I have seen a case when CM startup took like close to an hour and UCMDB in all that time had performance issue.

These are the processes run on CM startup:

-ViewsSynchronization

-PoliciesSynchronization

-IOLITE PoliciesSynchronization

-automanageResources

Also amber_general.log can provide info in case something went wrong on CM side. Maybe it fails on some process and it retries.

Thanks,

Razvan Bolocan.
