Re: Ports for actual Discovery. For a Firewall do we need TCP or UDP?

Please look into the Firewall discovery in Content Pack manuals, It uses SNMP to discover a firewall, SNMP is UDP.

Re: Ports for actual Discovery. For a Firewall do we need TCP or UDP?

In fact the documentation for the ports is really not complete. SNMP may use TCP communication as well. Microsoft NetBios (NTCMD) has also UDP/TCP options for ports 137 and 138:

  • NetBIOS Name Service: /NBNS on UDP (or TCP) port 137 (similar to DNS and also known as WINS on Windows)
  • NetBIOS Datagram Service: /NBDS on UDP port 138, rarely used.
  • NetBIOS Session Service: /NBSS on TCP port 139.

The other common protocols are TCP only.

We hope that it will soon improve the documentation of the use of ports for discovery.
