Probe Authentication in a Reverse Proxy configuration

What are the different options to authenticate a Probe when it will be connecting to the UCMDB system via a Reverse Proxy solution. We don't want to deploy mutual authentication if at all possible even though that would be the most secure solution it does bring some management challenges with the number of probes and certirficates that must be managed and renewed.. It also introduces some technical challenges when interacting with a Reverse Proxy.

Is there a basic authenticaiton model where a new Probe can authenticate with the system with credentials, for the first time then automatically after that.  Is that the Basic authenticaiton capability, if so where would be the best place to look for documentation on how to implement it in an reverse proxy configuriaton.
