UCMDB Support Tip: How to increase java heap space for uCMDB UI

One may want to increase the Java Heap Space allocated to the HP Universal CMDB (uCMDB) UI applet.

However, adding/changing the 'Xmx' java runtime parameters inside the Java Control Panel on the desktop where the uCMDB UI applet is executed does not seem to help.

As an alternative, you can change the maximum java heap memory size by means of the  runtime Xmx parameter from the Java Console Panel may be useless, as this parameter is overriden by an imbedded setting from the uCMDB UI applet.jsp file.

To change this imbedded setting, one may do the following:

  1. log onto the uCMDB server host
  2. open an explorer, and navigate to the <hp>\UCMDB\UCMDBServer\deploy\ucmdb-ui\applet folder
  3. edit the applet.jsp file, and search for the java_arguments string. You'd see something like

                <!-- only for  deployJava.isPlugin2() -->

                <param name="java_arguments" value="-Xmx512m -Xms256m">

                <param name="separate_jvm" value="true">

                <param name="classloader_cache" value="false">

                <!-- ENDOF only for  deployJava.isPlugin2() -->

4.     Change the values for the Xms and Xmx paramaters as desired (e.g. value="-Xmx1024m -Xms512m")

5.     Save the changes.

Next time one starts the uCMDB UI, those settings will be taken into account.  Please note, this new settings will be valid for all new uCMDB UI opened, independently from the host where they are opened.
