(UCMDB) Support Tip - Probe Fails to Register with OMI RTSM

HP Universal CMDB (UCMDB) or Operations Manager i (OMi) administrators may observe probes failing to register with OMi RTSM following a  new probe install. Error messages similar to the following are repeated  periodically:

[INFO ] [ProbeGW Tasks Downloader]
(ProbeTasksDistributerPull.java:687) - Probe Gateway received 1 tasks from
server. SEND_TOPOLOGY_DATA_TEMPLATE: 0 destinations. Total time to retrieve
tasks [20] msec

How can this issue be addressed?

These messages are generated when the (Run Time Service Model) RTSM server resident on the OMi Data Processing
Server (DPS) sends the SEND_TOPOLOGY_DATA_TEMPLATE task to the probe as part of the new probe registration process. The probe should reply by sending its topology to the server -- once the server updates the model with probe topology CIs, probe registration will have completed successfully.

At that point the sever would be able to send tasks as normal (downloading resources, running discovery jobs, etc). If there is a problem with
updating the probe topology, the server will ask for topology repeatedly. There  are several known causes of this behavior, i.e. due to a reconciliation issue,  due to a model/database consistency issue, the existence of another probe with same name in another domain, etc.

The most common cause of this  behavior is model inconsistency. The following steps address that:

1. Stop the Probe service.

2. Run the
DataFlowProbe\tools\clearProbeData.bat tool

3. On the OMi DPS server, Login to
the UCMDB RTSM JMX (on port 21212 of the DPS)

4. Perform a backup of the UCMDB
DB before proceeding:

5. Run the following:

a. History DB
Services, UCMDB:service=History DB Services à
alignHistoryForType. This method resolves discrepancies between
the class model and DB. Run the mbean with:

customer
id =1

CI Type=
            (leave field empty)

Alignindexes=true

b. DAL
Services, rebuildModelDBSchemaAndViews: This method, together with the rebuildModelViews method, resolves object discrepancies in the DB (e.g. missing objects, corrupted views, etc.)

CustomerID: 1

className:         (leave field empty)

skipIndexRebuild: True

skipColumnsUpdate: True

previewMode: False

c. DAL
Services rebuildModelViews

5. Start the Probe
Service

6. If the issue persists, please
enable debug and collect probe logs:

a. Modify
"probeMgrLog4j.properites"

#################################################################################

log4j.appender.LOGFILE_INFRA.MaxFileSize=15MB

log4j.appender.LOGFILE_INFRA.Threshold=DEBUG

log4j.appender.LOGFILE_INFRA.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout

log4j.appender.LOGFILE_INFRA.layout.ConversionPattern=<%d> [%-5p]
[%t] (%F:%L) - %m%n

log4j.appender.LOGFILE_INFRA.encoding=UTF-8

7. Additionally, please execute the loggrabber JMX to retrieve server logs from the DPS:

a. Server services --> executeLogGrabber Provide the results in a new case with HPE Support.
