UCMDB Support Tip: Probe Log File Size

It is normal that in certain cases the logfiles would be 15MB as the size limit for some log files was adjusted up from 5MB in previous product versions.

The configuration files for UCMDB Probe (with the exception of the WrapperProbeGw.log ,see below) are contained in the <InstallDir>:\hp\UCMDB\DataFlowProbe\conf\log directory and they are all .properties files.
Several of these properties files contain different sections that can influence the size of the log files and searching for each of the entries that contain MaxFileSize will show what the current setting are.

As an example, these are the entries in probeGwLog4j.properties that are set above 5MB

As mentioned above there is one exception, in order to change the settings for the WrapperProbeGw.log the <InstallDir>:\hp\UCMDB\DataFlowProbe\bin\wrapperprobe.conf file must be modified.  The settings that change the log size and number of backups are wrapper.logfile.maxsize and wrapper.logfile.maxfiles.

Important Note: After adjusting any logfile parameters it is necessary to restart the probe afterwards for the adjusted values to take effect.

Additional Suggestions:

Make sure that logs are not running in DEBUG unless actively troubleshooting an issue as this can impact memory and performance.

If the size of logfiles is adjusted down and it is necessary to troubleshoot an issue either on your own or with the Support center it might be necessary to increase the size again during that period and to also increase the # of files to make quite sure that we are in a position to capture the relevant and necessary data to identify the issue.
