UCMDB Tip: How to discover physical serial numbers on HP Blade Servers

The Hewlett-Packard’s Blade Servers have the ability to report either real physical serial numbers or virtual serial numbers (that differ from the physical serial numbers). In the latter scenario when the Blade Server is configured to report virtual serial numbers, these virtual numbers will be collected by Universal Discovery, not physical serial numbers.

Starting from Content Pack 13 and Content Pack 12 Update 9 a new setting in the globalSettings.xml configuration file was introduced:

<property name="reportPhysicalSerialNumbers">false</property>

When this setting is modified to

<property name="reportPhysicalSerialNumbers">true</property>

it causes the scanner-based inventory to report the real physical serial numbers instead of virtual ones, even if the Blade Server is configured to report virtual serial numbers.

The globalSettings.xml configuration file can be found in the AutoDiscoveryContent package.

Re: UCMDB Tip: How to discover physical serial numbers on HP Blade Servers

Thank you for the info.
How to do the same thing with agentless discovery?
In my case, I had to modify the script TTY_Connection_Utils.py to prioritize the use of the cstm command?
Thank you in advance for your response.

Re: UCMDB Tip: How to discover physical serial numbers on HP Blade Servers

Hello Bruno,

Please note that the suggested solution was intended only for scanner-based inventory of x86 Blades.

Regards,

Irina
