UCMDB Tip: How to troubleshoot Software Utilisation issues

If you come across an issue that Software Utilisation data is not reported for some machines, please check the following:

  • Please check whether Software Utilisation is enabled  in plugin.ini file:
    [PLUGIN]

       STARTUP=boot

  • Please check that the Software Utilisation plug-in process (discusge) is running
  • Please make sure the Software Utilisation data is fresh and getting updated
  • Please check whether Software Utilisation data is picked up as a special stored file in the scan file
  • Please check whether the applications for which you expect Software Utilisation data to be reported are identified through the SAI recognition

Re: UCMDB Tip: How to troubleshoot Software Utilisation issues

Hi,

I am facing the issue as below.

The software is identified through SAI since it is shwoing normalized which I checked from  get related items--> running software -- select ucmdb application and right click  properties . Also showing utilization data but the application details is not available in software utilization report.

The report is showing only "windows" software.

Please suggest.

with regards,

Nick

Re: UCMDB Tip: How to troubleshoot Software Utilisation issues

Hi Nick,

Could you please confirm, do you have some UNIX software, for which Software Utilization data is collected and it is not showing up in the report?

Irina

Re: UCMDB Tip: How to troubleshoot Software Utilisation issues

Hi Nick,

Thank you for providing the scan file.

Plese note that Software Utilisation data is not collected in the scan file. When the Utilisation is collected, you should see a special stored file with application utilisation data under "Stored files" tab.

Please check whether Software Utilisation is enabled  in plugin.ini file on that device and if yes,  please check if plug-in process (discusge) is running on the device.

Regards,

Irina

Re: UCMDB Tip: How to troubleshoot Software Utilisation issues

Hi Nick,

I can see that on the screenshot there are some Utilisation data present in UCMDB, however, this data in UCMDB might have been produced by an older scan file. The scan file that is currently available does not have any Software Utilization data in it. Since the source of the Software Utilisation data is the scan file, then currently no Utilisation is collected for that machine.

Irina

Re: UCMDB Tip: How to troubleshoot Software Utilisation issues

Hi,
Thanks for reply but still there are some issues and need ur help.

In windows server, i didnt see any special stored files for utilization under stored files. But discusage file is running also Software Application tab is showinf some utilization but it is not reflecting in report. Also checked utilization data files per day and aggredated file are available in perf directory.

But for unix platform , utilization data in hexadecimal form is available under stored files but in viewer application there is no software application tab and i cant see any utilization figure on the same. Plz suggest .

Re: UCMDB Tip: How to troubleshoot Software Utilisation issues

Hi Nick,

As discussed, in the Windows scan file that was provided, Software Utilization data is not collected, since there is no Software Utilization Data file under Stored files. Software Applications tab shows the list of applications that were recognised through SAI recognition, the Utilization data for them should be shown in the bottom part of the Viewer Window, however since the usage data is not collected, that part is empty.

If the discusge is running and the data in the Perf directory is present, there might be some scanner issue here which should be investigated separately. Please open a Support case for this issue.

Regarding the UNIX scan file, if you right-click on the Software Utilization Data file, you will see a pop-up menu, please choose the option "Toggle Display Mode" and you will see the contents of that file in a text mode.  Also, please make sure that in Viewer under File>Options>Recognition>Advanced-->SAIs you configure UNIX.zsai to be used for the recognition. It is likely that currently it is not included in the list of the SAIs used by the recognition engine and as a result, none of the applications in the scan files are recognised (and there is nothing to report under Software Applications Tab).

Regards,
Irina
