UCMDB Tip: Probe outage on the UCMDB server with IPv6 configured

Hello All,

We have come across an issue with UCMDB 10.10 where Data Flow probe stopped, and could not be started.

WrapperProbeGW.log was showing the following error on restart:

  jvm 1    | <2014-04-08 09:58:46,837> 546  [FATAL] [WrapperSimpleAppMain] (MainProbeAgent.java:267) - Failed instantiate Probe Agent jvm 1    | java.lang.Exception: Error starting the rmi connector jvm 1

.............................................................................................................

jvm 1    | Caused by: java.io.IOException: Cannot bind to URL [rmi://:1742/jmxrmi]: javax.naming.CommunicationException [Root exception is java.rmi.ConnectIOException: Exception creating connection to: 10.10.15.158; nested exception is:
jvm 1    |               java.net.SocketException: Permission denied: connect]
jvm 1    |               at javax.management.remote.rmi.RMIConnectorServer.newIOException(RMIConnectorServer.java:826)
jvm 1    |               at javax.management.remote.rmi.RMIConnectorServer.start(RMIConnectorServer.java:431)
jvm 1    |               at com.hp.ucmdb.discovery.probe.agents.common.BaseAgent.addRmiConnector(BaseAgent.java:285)

This problem is due to a known issue in JDK 1.7 related to IPv6.

As a workaround for this issue, please do the following:

  • Go to the directory  <DataFlowProbe>\bin
  • Add the following parameter to wrapper-platform.conf file:

       -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true

This will restrict JVM to use IPv4 for IP stack only.

Regards,

Irina
