UD + Cisco IP Phones = help?

Hi,

I suppose I am not the only one with this problem, as this is not an unusual configuration:

I have a customer that has exclusivly cisco IP Phones. He needs UD to discover them.

I have managed to discover the IPs, and two open ports: 80 and 443... and that's it. Just generic nodes, with no name, no serial number, no model, nothing.

SNMP Discovery is out, as Cisco IP Phones do not support snmp.

So the question is:

How to discover cisco ip phones?

Re: UD + Cisco IP Phones = help?

You need to develop custom discovery job to do so. Another option is to ask 3rd party to do so, or raise enhencement request with HPE. Last one could take long time...

Re: UD + Cisco IP Phones = help?

I've written a Cisco IP Phone discovery job before.  Probably still have a copy I could share.

Re: UD + Cisco IP Phones = help?

To discover Cisco IP Phones, I used the HTTP protocol to retreive the configuation output via the URL:

http://ipaddress-of-phone/DeviceInformationX

This returns an XML doc with the basic information (including the phone number of the phone)

You can also use these URLs to get more info:

http://ipaddress-of-phone/EthernetInformationX
http://ipaddress-of-phone/NetworkConfigurationX
http://ipaddress-of-phone/PortInformationX?nX
http://ipaddress-of-phone/StreamingStatisticsX

Then it is just a matter of parsing the XML and populatng the CI Attributes like any other discovery job
