XML Enricher not starting

Jump to solution

In our client's environment, we have switched the Data Flow Probe service to use a named user account instead of LocalSystem to correct a communications problem when scanning Windows servers.  Now, this service account is a member of the DFP server's local Administrators group, but that group still has some restrictions placed on it by a Group Policy.

We were seeing that the XML Enricher service wasn't getting started by the Probe service.  The Group Policy was changed to allow the service account rights to start, stop and get the status of the XML Enricher service.  However, we're still seeing the same errors in the probeMgr-XmlEnricher.log file every 60 seconds:

<2016-01-07 09:21:32,002> [INFO ] [XmlEnricherMonitorThread] (ManageServicesJNA.java:279) - SCManager not opened!

We have used the sc sdshow command to verify that the service account does, in fact, have all the permissions it needs to start, stop and interrogate the XML Enricher service, so why are we still getting these errors?  What is the Probe service trying to do in order to determine the status of the XML Enricher service?

It appears the client did not have the service account in the local admins group onb the Data Flow Probe server.  Once that got corrected, the Probe service had full control over the XML Enricher service.
