how to get started understanding ucmdb?

I need to stand up a test version of ucmdb and get it discovering relationships between machines.

Where's the best place to begin learning the foundation of ucmdb to successfully stand it up and use it.

Re: how to get started understanding ucmdb?

- uCMDB 10.20 --> Download

- Install the CMS ( you have 3 databse options.. oracle/MS SQL/ Postgress ) If you planning to use it for test, start with postgress database. it supports  up to 12 million CI discovery.

- Install uCMDB probe. if test, you can install it on the same machine

- login in to console http://ucmdb server ip/hostname:8080/ucmdb-ui/applet/applet.jsp?null [ admin / admin ]

- After sucessfull login, go to Dataflow Management --> Dataflow probe Setup, select the probe you installed and add the IP ranges you want to discovery.  Also add the required credentials ( agentless [ ssh, ntcmd, telnet.. ] )

- Click on zone based discovery from Universal Discovery. Create a management zone with * , add the probes to the zone and enable your discovery jobs.

Re: how to get started understanding ucmdb?

you need to get a agentless account with permissions to run commands and you need to input the account details in dataflow probe setup --> Domains and Probes --> <Domain..> --> Credentials.

There are options available to test agent based discovery, where you need to install UD agents with a certificate created from UCMDB.

In what  cases , one need to use Agent based discovery ? but  can one use  default admin login to login to the UI and then add their windows account details to credentials on the UI?
