node CI type contains duplicate CIs

UCMDB 10.3x

We are discovering hosts by various protocols in UCMDB and everything is been stored in CMDB CMS under Node CI type. However after certain days, we see there are duplicate CI's created under Node CI type, with same Display label attribute, but with other attributes differing. I understand Node CI type would be identified as duplicates based on certain attributes. Is there any possiblity of changing the identification rules based on following attributes combined,

name
Primary DNS name
IP address of server
OS model and version
MAC address

Please advise how.

Re: node CI type contains duplicate CIs

Hi there,

we can have multiple reasons for such duplicates.

The most common root causes are merges which don't happen or different discovery sources which report apparent different attributes.

Is there a pattern in the duplicated CIs? Like

  • who creates the attributes?
  • what attributes are the same?
  • what is your current default label? OOTB this is name|snmp_sys_name|primary_dns_name|host_key|root_class

kind regards,

Bogdan

Re: node CI type contains duplicate CIs

Hi Bogdan

Node CI attributes are created by Populating NNMi Topology to UCMDB CMS. If same network device is discovered from UCMDB and from NNMi, we see some of the attributes are differing like number of interfaces, and UCMDB is creating duplicate Node CI instance.

Following attributes are same,

DisplayLabel
DefaultGatewayIpAddressType
Name
OsFamily
CI Type
SNMPSysName
CreatedBy
DiscoveredModel
DiscoveredVendor

Default label is name|snmp_sys_name|primary_dns_name|host_key|root_class

Re: node CI type contains duplicate CIs

This seems to be a classic case of data flipping between discovery and NNMi.

Can you use reconciliation priority so the NNMi datasource is more trusted?

Bogdan

Can you please give me more details of how to use reconcilation priority so the NNMi datasource is more trusted.

Sorry to this, since I am new to UCMDB.

Re: node CI type contains duplicate CIs

Try to use the documentation from here --> https://docs.microfocus.com/UCMDB/10.33/ucmdb-docs/docs/eng/doc_lib/Content/dfm/recon_mgr_ui_recon_prior_win.htm?Highlight=reconciliation%20priority

The NNMi integration point needs to be defined and active prior to this.
