tracking data backup service as a CI

we're looking for best practice for tracking data backups as CIs.  Is there a class for this, do we need to create one, or is it not recommended to track backup attributes (device, schedule, retention, media, GB used, etc) in the CMDB?

Re: tracking data backup service as a CI

Hi Chuck,

As far as I know, we have neither discovery for backup systems, nor appropriate CITand  links in the class model.

If you'll decide to add your classes, my suggestion is to follow curent UCMDB concept.

Application - under Running Software; backup files under Application Resource.

In my opinion, parameters as device, schedule, retention, media, GB used should be attributes on relevant classes.

Hope this helps.
